Focus On: Laura Mercier African Violet

Focus On is a work in progress. Have you ever talked yourself out of buying a product because the color was too odd, and you wondered how often you would really be able to use it? Or, you know those colors you LOVE because of some hidden versatility that you never imagined when you bought it? I do that ALL of the time. In the interests of loving what I HAVE, and learning its limitations, rather than relying on the influx of new colors, I will be doing this post every Saturday, focusing on a new color from my collection, with examples of past work, ideas for other uses. Please feel free to suggest colors you wish to see, or uses for the ones listed, or let me know what your favorites are for future posts.

African Violet is similar to fyrinnae’s Meercat, but the base is more of a cool toned mauve.  So there’s a little more versatility to the tones you can use it with.

It’s deep enough to be used for the crease, in a natural eye. Strong liner optional.

The purple is soft enough that it looks striking with a slightly smokier eye as well.

Apply sheerly over a matte white highlight, for a very soft lilac highlight.

Apply over the lower lid with a red-toned brown smoky eye, to take some of the harshness of the red out.

Apply over a dark base for a subtle gold shimmer.

Doing a bright look, but not sure how to contour the lashline?  The gold shimmer makes this the perfect shade to dust over the lashline with bright looks.  The base will add contour, while the gold highlights, and echos the gold on the lid in this look.
