Yes, I know I’ve been VERY flaky lately. Had one curve ball after another, and even though I’ve had a few new products pass through my hands, I haven’t been able to document my play with them. I wanted to pass on a few mini-reviews for products that have caught my interest lately…

It’s not as bright as I was doing for a while. I find it funny that I put this on the night before we got MASSIVE snowflakes, out of season. ugh. Sorry if I’m a bit quiet today. I’ve prepared material in advance because I’ll be gone all day shooting.

Truthfully, I only applied this to test a few new ELF brushes with a tried and true combination I’ve done many times. This is my quintessential subtle makeup. MAC Kid, cork, and naked lunch are the BEST shades I’ve found to melt into my skin tone.

Start with this look, apply a layer of powder below the eyes to catch fallout, to transition from day to a night appropriate look.

Focus On is a work in progress. Have you ever talked yourself out of buying a product because the color was too odd, and you wondered how often you would really be able to use it? Or, you know those colors you LOVE because of some hidden versatility that you never imagined when you bought it? I do that ALL of the time. In the interests of loving what I HAVE, and learning its limitations, rather than relying on the influx of new colors, I will be doing this post every Saturday, focusing on a new color from my collection, with examples of past work, ideas for other uses. Please feel free to suggest colors you wish to see, or uses for the ones listed, or let me know what your favorites are for future posts.
Mary Jane is a pretty, frosty pale blue. There’s NO aqua or turquoise notes in this color, and this color is best on the coolest-of-the-cool pink skin tones. If you pair it with warmer teals and such, warmer tones can wear it, but keep your undertones in mind when choosing pairings. This post particularly is a trip down memory lane, since so many of the looks here are older, before I’d manage to coax my eyebrows into a normal shape(They’re sparse and shapeless, so for YEARS I handled it by overplucking them, and sketching it in where I could. Embarrassing, really.)

Recently, Urban Decay released a few 70s themed shades, exclusively available at sephora. These had the classic almost-metallic Urban Decay Frost finish, bright colors, and are some of my favorites from the line! I’ve held off buying them individually, in the hopes that they might release some sort of limited edition palette with all of the shades. Haight, and Psychedelic sister were included in the holiday Book of Shadows palette, but the shades I really wanted—-woodstock, and Dashiki were not, so I gave in and bought them on their own.
Urban Decay shadows are $18 each, and fit nicely in MAC palettes when depotted. It’s standard price for mid-high end, but it may be expensive enough that you should think about how often you’ll use the color. Dashiki is a GORGEOUS blue, with a hint of teal. It’s darker than the photo may make you think, but still suitable as a lid color to make eyes pop. I LOVE the color, finish, blending ability, and texture. No glittery fallout, nasty chunky messes, streaky pigmentation here!

Royal sugar is the most awesome neon blue I have ever seen. THe eye close ups look different, becuase I used different lighting, to try to show the dimension of the shadow. One shows the color, another shows the shimmer texture. I LOVE mufe silver flash crema as a base. SOOO sparkly and luscious!

At least in my head. But a singularly bad day, in a spectacularly bad week, will do that to you. I almost gave up the idea of finishing my face, since after 8 hours of being pounded by wind and sleet at work, my whole face and neck feel like they’ve been attacked by hornets. I’m just surprised there aren’t welts on my neck from the wind snapping the neck fastening for my raincoat loose and slapping me with it. That FELT hard enough to leave a mark, anyways. I think makeup remover is going to sting when I take this off. Even my tinted moisturizer made it itch and sting!

It’s not the neatest. My hands are still shaking really badly. But I wanted to execute something with a little more planning than my last costume look.

Maybe I’m uninspired, maybe I just wanted something simple to test out OCC NSWF on the lips…. Either of those sound better than “I could hardly close my hands around a brush and guilted myself into coming up with something quick to offer for the day”. That said, I’ve always been partial to this style of flowy, exaggerated eyeliner.
